Introduction

Wafer Handling & Positioning group has a mix of mechanical and hardware engineers with varied levels of work experience. Within the group, we carry out product development and support wafer stages & wafer handlers, together with other groups for neighboring areas of expertise.

Your assignment

Docking mechanism is used as the interface between wafer handler and wafer stage modules. This creates a mechanically stiff, accurate and repeatable interface for wafer exchange. Docking mechanism has challenging requirements on precision, stroke, force, safety, wear and additional functionalities. The boundary conditions on volume and interfaces add to the challenge.

Your assignment is to design and develop a low-cost alternative to the existing design of docking mechanism.

Key deliverables include:
  • Understand current design;
  • Gather requirements and boundary conditions;
  • Perform literature research;
  • Create conceptual designs and trade-offs;
  • Select concepts and do preliminary calculations;
  • Design solution concept in NX;
  • Perform required analyses, e.g, stress, displacement, fatigue;
  • Design functional model for proving feasibility of the solution concept;
  • Assist in interfacing with relevant stakeholders, such as suppliers, but also interfacing with other groups/departments/competences;
  • Report on progress and deliverables;
  • Document and present the thesis study;

This is a master graduation project (thesis) for 9-12 months, minimum 4 days per week. The start date of this internship is in January 2025.

Your profile

To be a perfect fit for this assignment, you:
  • Have a background in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Have knowledge of precision mechanics and design principles;
  • Have knowledge of CAD; NX is preferred;
  • Have simulation expertise is prefered;
  • Having proactive attitude and willingness to ask questions.

Other requirements you need to meet

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship. In case you 're currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.
