What can a sample of trona teach a classroom about the future?

At Solvay’s Green River site, quite a lot. 🔍

Quality Supervisor Dave Smith regularly visits local schools in southwestern Wyoming, bringing samples of trona, sodium bicarbonate and soda ash with him. He explains how they are produced, answers students’ questions, and gives them a closer look at an industry that is part of their community.

These conversations also reveal something students may not expect: the range of careers available at a site like Green River.

“We have more than miners,” Dave explains. From engineering and environmental roles to accounting and operations, many different skills keep the site moving.

Some of the students from Dave’s first visits are now approaching the end of high school. It is a reminder that when employees share what they know, they can help the next generation imagine paths they may never have considered.
