Why Yaay
A note on fit: We keep a relaxed hierarchy and high expectations at the same time. If you're excited to push hard and help make Yaay a success, you'll fit right in. If you're after a calm nine-to-five, this probably isn't the one.
We're building the taste layer for the physical world: the app that knows what you actually love and turns it into places to go.
Today: See it. Save it. Do it.
- Spot a place on social, save it in one tap, and our AI finds the exact spot, pins it to your map, and helps you plan and book it.
Where we're going
- The app you open to go out in your own city with your friends, that inspires and pushes you into the world, and that truly feels social.
Our product philosophy
- AI is the engine, not the show. We use it heavily, but users don't need to know or care. It's hidden and helpful, never flashy for its own sake.
- We kill choice overload. People are drowning in options. We get them to the right one while feeling confident they're not missing something better.
- Complex inside, dead simple outside. Features can be intricate behind the scenes, but should always feel effortless to use.
- Convention over configuration. The common case is the happy path, with an escape hatch for when you need more control.
- Validate, but trust the vision. We test product decisions with real signals, and we hold our nerve on the long-term direction we believe in.
About the role
- Take our React Native / Expo app to the next level and own the craft of how it feels in people's hands
- Work closely with the founders and designer in a flat, autonomous team, reporting to Christian (CTO)
- Remote-friendly (within UTC−3 to UTC+5 for 4-5 hour overlap with Denmark), with our home base in the Copenhagen city-center office. If you're in Denmark we do require you to be in Copenhagen
What you'll do
- Ship a polished, native-feeling app and sweat the details: animation, haptics, the small touches that make it delightful
- Turn a vague idea or a napkin sketch into a real, shipped feature
- Explore different routes to a feature while keeping focus on getting it into users' hands
- Put yourself in the user's shoes on every decision
What we're looking for
- Extensive React Native experience and a background building native mobile apps
- A feel for polish: you know where a little animation or haptic makes the difference
- Comfortable working autonomously from loose direction, not a fully scoped spec
- A real passion for travel, and an understanding that everyone travels differently
- Consumer app experience is a big plus, as is Swift/Objective-C or Kotlin/Java (nice to have, not required)
How we work
- Engineering here is creative work. Our process is exploratory, and finding the best solution is part of building it
- We move from idea to shipped feature without waiting for everything to be fully designed first
Why Yaay
- An early, pivotal seat at an ambitious startup taking on travel and leisure, a space that touches almost everyone
- Real autonomy inside a flat, joyful team
- Room to grow with the company as it scales
A note on fit: We keep a relaxed hierarchy and high expectations at the same time. If you're excited to push hard and help make Yaay a success, you'll fit right in. If you're after a calm nine-to-five, this probably isn't the one.
