Join a world-class pilot plant and gain hands-on experience with fermentation and bioprocessing

Are you a student with an interest in biotechnology, fermentation, and lab work? We are looking for a motivated student assistant to support activities in our state-of-the-art pilot plant at BRiGHT. This is a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in an innovative research environment working with exciting projects from DTU researchers and companies.

At BRiGHT, we develop next-generation biotechnologies using synthetic biology. Our work contributes to more sustainable production methods, environmentally friendly products and climate-friendly solutions. As a student assistant, you will become part of a team working to solve real-world challenges through biotechnology.

Your tasks may include:
  • Assisting with preparation and execution of fermentation experiments
  • Helping with sampling, data collection, and basic data analysis
  • Assisting with documentation in digital lab systems (LIMS)
  • Preparing media, cleaning equipment, and maintaining the lab and pilot plant
  • Supporting both laboratory and practical hands-on tasks in the pilot plant

You will join a collaborative team consisting of fermentation and downstream engineers and technicians.

We are looking for someone who:
  • Is currently studying biotechnology, biochemistry, biology, chemical engineering, or a related field
  • Has an interest in microbial fermentation and bioprocessing
  • Enjoys practical hands-on work in both lab and pilot plant settings
  • Is structured, responsible, and eager to learn
  • Works well independently as well as part of a team
  • Is flexible and willing to help with a variety of tasks, including routine lab maintenance and cleaning

Experience with fermentation, laboratory techniques, or bioreactors is an advantage, but not required. The most important thing is your motivation to learn and contribute to the team.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the multi-union collective agreement for the Organisations of Public Employees-Denmark (State) (OAO-S) and the trade union agreement for clerical staff etc. (HK/State).

Working hours are on average 12 hours per week and can be organized flexibly in relation to holidays, exams, etc. Starting date is 01-09-2026 (or according to mutual agreement). The position is limited to 1 year.

The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus.

Application and contact
Please submit your online application no later than Wednesday, 15 July 2026. Open the "Apply now" link, fill out the form and attach your motivated application, CV and documentation for study activity. In the application, we would like to hear a little about you, your competencies and why you are applying for the position.

As DTU works with research in critical technology, which is subject to special rules for security and export control, open-source background checks may be conducted on qualified candidates for the position.

About BRIGHT - The Novo Nordisk Foundation Biotechnology Research Institute for the Green Transition
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Biotechnology Research Institute for the Green Transition (BRIGHT) is a major initiative based at DTU that aims to accelerate the development of biosolutions and strengthen the bio-based economy. BRIGHT serves as a hub for academic and industrial partners working together to unlock the potential of bioproduction. BRIGHT focuses on three main areas: Sustainable materials (Developing bio-based alternatives to fossil-derived materials), Microbial foods (Innovating food production through microbial technologies), and Microorganisms for net-zero agriculture (Creating solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture). The goal is to develop and scale innovative biosolutions within these areas, ultimately creating sustainable and competitive alternatives to fossil-based products and processes that can make significant contributions to reducing global greenhouse gas emissions.
