Applications are invited for a 2-year Academic position in the field of evolutionary genomics and bioinformatics at the Department of Biology, Aarhus University, Denmark.

Expected start date and duration of employment

This is a fixed-term 2-year position with a start the 15 May 2027 or as soon as possible hereafter.

Job description

  • The position will focus on providing bioinformatic and computational support for the processing, analysis, management, and interpretation of genomic data, thereby supporting scientific staff in their research activities and collaborative projects:
  • Supporting the processing and quality control of whole-genome sequencing and resequencing data, ensuring that datasets are suitable for downstream scientific analyses.
  • Supporting the development and the performance of statistical analysis of genomic and ecological data
  • Supporting de novo genome assembly and genome annotation, including the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of relevant bioinformatic workflows.
  • Supporting scientific staff with genomic analyses of individual and pooled resequencing data, including data preparation, computational analyses, quality control, and generation of results for further scientific interpretation.
  • Developing, adapting, and maintaining bioinformatic pipelines and computational workflows to facilitate efficient and reproducible analysis of large genomic datasets.
  • Assisting with the organization, management, documentation, and quality control of genomic datasets and analysis workflows.
  • Providing technical and computational support to students, PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty members working with genomic data.
  • Supporting the integration and preparation of genomic data with demographic, ecological, and environmental datasets for subsequent scientific analyses by the research team.
  • Contributing to the reproducibility and documentation of computational analyses, including maintaining scripts, workflows, and analysis records.
  • Assisting with the visualization, summarization, and preparation of genomic results for use by scientific staff in publications, reports, presentations, and collaborative research activities.
  • Contributing to collaborative research projects by providing bioinformatic expertise and technical support throughout the different stages of genomic data analysis.
  • You will be involved in collaborative research projects as well as independent projects, and will work in close collaboration with students, PhD students, post docs and other faculty members.
  • Many research activities occur in close collaboration with colleagues and members of Centre for Ecological Genetics at the Section for Genetics, Ecology and Evolution.

Your profile

Applicants should hold a relevant Master's degree. A PhD in evolutionary genomics or a related field is considered an advantage.

  • Strong profile and background in evolutionary genetics, genomics, population genetics, bioinformatics.
  • Extensive experience in bioinformatic analyses, coding and development of pipelines, handling of large genomic data sets, experience with population genetic and evolutionary analyses.
  • Demonstrated ability of being able to support researchers in completing research projects and preparing manuscripts for publication.
  • Open to and engaged in collaborative projects and supervision of students

Formalities and salary range

Salary and terms as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxationand the Confederation of Professional Unions.You will be employed as an academic staff member at basic salary grades 4-8.
