Corporate Social Responsibility Program — Art in Tanzania

Business has power. Teach it to use that power well.

Tanzania's economy is growing fast — but growth without accountability leaves communities behind. While Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is embedded in school curricula and public discourse across the Western world, many Tanzanian corporations and institutions are yet to make it a genuine operational priority. Meanwhile, climate change is reshaping the agricultural economy on which millions depend.

The gap between awareness and action is where this program lives. And you can help close it.

About the Program

Since 1996, Art in Tanzania has placed approximately 250 participants annually in hands-on community programmes across Tanzania. Our CSR Program bridges the private sector, government institutions, and local communities — creating a space where business education meets real-world impact.

You will work alongside Tanzanian corporate partners and community organisations to educate, advocate, and implement — bringing CSR principles into schools, public spaces, and business practice.

Who We Work With

We currently partner with leading Tanzanian and international organisations, including:

  • Dar es Salaam University
  • Twiga Cement
  • Airtel
  • Coca-Cola
  • NBC Bank
  • PVC

The programme is actively expanding. New corporate and institutional partners are being brought on board, widening the scope and reach of the work you'll contribute to.

What You'll Do

This program is a cross-disciplinary programme — students from business, law, environmental science, communications, education, public policy, and many other fields will find meaningful roles here.

📚 Education & Awareness Deliver CSR and climate change education in schools and public settings, working with the Tanzanian business community to bring these concepts to life in locally relevant, accessible ways.

🌳 Environmental Field Work: Take part in practical field operations, including tree nursery management and community planting initiatives — putting environmental responsibility into direct action.

🤝 Corporate Engagement Work with partner companies to assess and develop their CSR strategies, helping build a culture of accountability within Tanzania's growing private sector.

📊 Planning, Reporting & Visibility Contribute to programme documentation, progress reporting, and public visibility efforts — ensuring the impact of this work is captured and communicated effectively.

🎓 Academic Research & Thesis Students who need to fulfil thesis requirements or academic research objectives can integrate this work into their placement, with daily supervision from academic-level team leaders.

Structure & Support

You won't be dropped in without support. Academic-level team leaders supervise your placement daily, and a weekly plan-and-report system keeps you on track — ensuring your time here counts toward your professional and academic development.

The internship outcome is concrete: you will learn to apply your education in a developing-country context with real resource constraints, gaining a grounded understanding of what responsible business practice looks like when it matters most — and discovering the opportunities in one of the world's fastest-growing economies.
