Nathan Pollard, Graduate Research Agronomist in the Agroscience Field Service department of Eurofins | Kalyx in New Zealand, blends his love for the outdoors with a passion for creating a more sustainable future.
Agriculture was a natural career choice for Nathan: “I am outdoor orientated and thoroughly enjoy working towards creating a better future in a sustainable manner.”

What does his role entail? Alongside his team, he assesses emerging agricultural products for crop health to determine their efficacy.

🌾He shares: “Trials don’t just give us numbers - they are also a chance to learn. In one trial on powdery mildew, a common plant disease that shows up as a white, dusty coating on leaves, we found two different forms of it. One looked quite unusual and even resembled another disease, downy mildew, which needs a completely different approach to treat. Spotting these differences in the field helps us better understand what’s going on and make more informed decisions about how to manage it.”

What drives Nathan to continue growing in his role? With his horticultural science education, he can take practical steps towards safeguarding the environment, allowing him to continue enjoying the outdoors beyond his work.
