Are you passionate about making a difference for the environment? Do you want to gain experience in working with sustainability in an international corporative with the ambition to lead sustainable dairy? Then this might be the perfect opportunity for you!

We are recruiting an intern/student assistant to support Arla's Sustainability Strategy team in further developing our nature strategy, with a particular focus on plant protection products, i.e. pesticides, bio-pesticides and Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and how we drive change with our farmers to improve our environmental impact. In Sustainability Strategy, you will become part of a small, diverse team working across Aarhus and Copenhagen. We set the strategic direction for Arla's sustainability agenda, and we collaborate closely with our farmers, suppliers, direct operations and internal experts. We are also closely linked to leading global forums and frameworks, collaborating with and across industries to shape sustainability developments within and beyond our cooperative.

How you will make an impact?

In this role, you will support the sustainability strategy team in developing our nature strategy with a clear focus on plant protection products, i.e. how we can drive change with our farmers to improve our environmental impact through better practices, improved decision support and potential alternatives. This is a focused position where you will help us accelerate work and build momentum with regards to how plant protection can support our nature strategy agenda.

In practice, you will support us by
  • Leveraging your existing knowledge on plant protection to identify and analyze current practices, levers for change, and pathways for improvement
  • Assisting in analyzing the on-farm situation and development across our markets related to plant protection (e.g. current practices, patterns, and improvement areas)
  • Retrieving key input from our local organizations and external stakeholders on feasibility, barriers and enable for change (e.g. IPM adoption, alternatives, advisory set-up)
  • Drawing conclusions about environmental parameters from our extensive farm dataset to support insights and prioritization (where relevant to plant protection products)
  • Supporting the team in making decision proposals for internal and external use (e.g. helping structure materials, recommendations and next steps on plant protection)

What will make you successful?

We are looking for a structured and analytical student with a background in environmental and/or agricultural sustainability and a solid understanding of plant protection products. You may come from study directions such as agronomy, agro-environmental management/environmental management, biology/ecology, nature management, plant/crop science, plant protection, horticulture, or similar.

Because this position is focused, we are looking for someone who has knowledge of pesticides, bio-pesticides and/or Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and who is curious about how on-farm practices connect to environmental impacts and decision-making in a cooperative context. Ideally you have at least 2 years left of your studies and you are based in Copenhagen or Aarhus able to come in to the office when working (as a rule of thumb).

To succeed in this role, you should
  • Have strong problem-solving & analytical skills Ability to break down problems, analyze quantitative and qualitative data, and develop insights to support strategic decision-making
  • Possess well-rounded communication & presentation skills Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner, both verbally, and in writing, including PowerPoint
  • Be curious & eager to learn Have a strong interest in sustainability and how to work on this in an Arla context and a natural curiosity to expand your knowledge and skillset - and the drive to go deep on plant protection products
  • Have a collaborative mindset Be a true team player who shares insights, questions and concerns transparently and contributes to fostering a positive team environment

The internship is typically full-time and limited in duration (often 4-5 months, depending on study requirements). We value your academic commitments and will, where possible, align practicalities with your university requirements.

It is an advantage if you can start as an intern in the fall 2026 an alternatively spring 2027, and continue as a student assistant after your internship (if a mutual fit is agreed), but you can also apply for a student position directly (please specify as part of your application). If your work with Arla continues into next year, we expect that your role may broaden to also support other priorities within Sustainability Strategy such as Deforestation and conversion free (DCF), Regenerative frameworks / practices, piloting target setting frameworks etc.)
