What You'll Do

As an HVAC Design Engineer, you will support the design and development of HVAC and ventilation systems for major nuclear and infrastructure projects. You will contribute to the delivery of technically robust, compliant, and efficient engineering solutions across complex and highly regulated environments. Working within multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will be involved in system design, calculations, technical coordination, and production of engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of HVAC and ventilation systems for nuclear and infrastructure projects.
  • Produce and review HVAC engineering calculations including airflow, pressure loss, heat load, thermal balance, and equipment sizing calculations.
  • Contribute to the preparation of HVAC system layouts, ductwork routing, equipment specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Assist with the selection and specification of HVAC equipment including fans, chillers, filters, dampers, air handling units, and associated systems.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, civil, layout, electrical, piping, fire protection, and nuclear safety teams to ensure design integration.
  • Participate in technical reviews, design coordination meetings, and project discussions with internal teams, suppliers, and clients.
  • Support the development and review of engineering deliverables including calculations, specifications, system manuals, technical reports, and design documentation.
  • Ensure HVAC designs comply with applicable engineering standards, nuclear safety requirements, environmental regulations, and project procedures.
  • Support the assessment and implementation of engineering modifications and design changes.
  • Assist in resolving technical queries arising during design, installation, commissioning, and construction phases.
  • Contribute to design optimisation activities focused on constructability, maintainability, operational efficiency, and project delivery performance.

Who You Are

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working on HVAC design activities within regulated industries such as nuclear, infrastructure, energy, industrial, or complex building projects.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC engineering principles, ventilation systems, and thermal calculations.
  • Familiarity with HVAC design standards, engineering calculations, and technical documentation production.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinating across technical interfaces.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work collaboratively across project teams.
  • Proactive and adaptable, with the ability to manage evolving project and technical requirements.
