Are you passionate about data science and eager to apply your skills to cutting-edge biomedical research? We are looking for a highly motivated and independent scientist to join our dynamic research group and contribute to the analysis of -omics datasets in the context of cardiac disease. The scientist will investigate remodeling in hearts from animal models, patient samples as well as cell systems using quantitative -omics-based approaches to identify molecular changes driving cardiometabolic disease.

About Us

Our research group investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiac pathology, with a particular focus on proteins and cells involved in disease progression. We work at the intersection of cardiac proteomics, systems biology and molecular cardiology, and our projects are deeply collaborative spanning national and international academic research groups and clinical collaborators.

We foster a diverse and international team culture, where curiosity, creativity, drive and scientific rigor are valued. Our group is embedded at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Copenhagen with a fabulous location in the Mærsk Tower at the Panum Institute.

Your Role

You will play a central role in data generated across multiple -omics modalities. You will work closely with experimentalists in our team to extract meaningful biological insights from complex datasets.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Performing in-depth analyses of mass spectrometry-based proteomics data
  • Leading data analysis across diverse projects, including:
    • Large-scale cardiac tissue proteomics from patient cohorts
    • Single-cell and spatial proteomics
    • Phosphoproteomics and protein interaction studies
  • Developing and applying computational methods for functional interpretation of proteomics data, in combination with your knowledge of the literature
  • Exploring and implementing novel analytical approaches to enhance data interpretation
  • Translating data into biological insights relevant to heart disease
  • Communicating scientific findings clearly in writing and contributing to publications
Your Profile

The preferred applicant should have an excellent academic track record, solid research experience and be highly motivated to deploy diverse strategies to extract novel findings of importance to cardiac pathophysiology. Previous research experience in an ambitious research environment is required.

Essential qualifications:

  • PhD in a quantitative or cardiovascular discipline (e.g., bioinformatics, systems biology, cardiovascular medicine, or related fields)
  • Hands-on experience with mass spectrometry-based proteomics, single cell transcriptomics and spatial transcriptomics
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably R and/or Python
  • Eagerness to explore and evaluate new analytical strategies
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken
Desirable qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with state-of-the-art tools for the analysis of complex MS datasets, such as multi-batch experimental designs
  • Understanding of different data acquisition modes (particularly DIA), including associated search strategies and quality control procedures, including familiarity with software frameworks such as DIA-NN, FragPipe, or comparable platforms
  • Experience with functional annotation and biological interpretation of proteomics data
  • Collegial, proactive, and supportive team player
  • Previous involvement in ambitious research environment
You will be expected to contribute to the ongoing research projects in the group on an ad hoc basis when needed; disseminate your expertise to new lab members and support the lab management.

What We Offer

  • A stimulating and collaborative research environment
  • Access to state-of-the-art proteomics datasets and infrastructure
  • Opportunities to work with leading scientists in molecular cardiology and cardiac proteomics
  • A workplace that values diversity, creativity, and scientific excellence
  • Outstanding facilities
Place of employment

The place of employment is at the Cardiac Proteomics & Systems Biology Group, Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
