We are seeking a motivated candidate for a 10 month postdoc, maternity-leave substitute, position starting August 1st 2026, or soon thereafter.

The position is part of a program examining the involvement of the complement system in chronic kidney disease, the impact of renoprotective drugs on the complement system and mechanisms of release of complement system components.

The project involves partners from the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and University Hospitals (Odense, Gødstrup)

Your role

You will tie laboratory parts together with clinical studies and perform in vitro and ex vivo analyses and experiments. Your primary responsibility will be to analyze clinical samples, to work with liver organoids and to do ex vivo complement activity measurements and investigations in human kidney tissue. In addition to research, the position involves disseminating findings through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, as well as contributing to professional development, university teaching, and supervision of research students.

Your qualifications

Need to have:
• A PhD in biomedicine or a related discipline
• Hands-on expertise with cell culture and molecular biology techniques including RNascope and RNAseq
• Experience with immunoblotting and histochemistry
• High motivation, scientific curiosity, problem-solving skills, and independent initiative
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency in written and spoken English

Nice to have:
• Bioinformatic analysis experience (e.g., single-cell transcriptomics)

Research environment

You will be based at the newly built research facilities of the Faculty of Health, SDU, in Odense, Denmark, within the Unit of Cardiovascular and Renal Research, part of the Department of Molecular Medicine. Here, you will join a vibrant, collaborative environment of Danish and international colleagues and students, fostering both scientific and social engagement.
