Prussian BlueAnalogues (PBAs) are a versatile family of cyanide-coordinated materials whosecomposition and oxidation state can be engineered to produce a wide range ofelectronic, ionic and magnetic properties. In particular, vanadium-chromium(V-Cr) PBAs are attractive molecular magnets, with reported magnetic orderingtemperatures extending well above room temperature.
This internship willfocus on the development of thin-film deposition processes for magnetic V-CrPBAs, with the objective of translating their promising bulk magneticproperties into continuous, device-compatible films. The student willinvestigate deposition approaches such as electrodeposition andsolution-based growth, and study how processing parameters influence filmthickness, morphology, composition, crystallinity and oxidation state.
The deposited filmswill be characterized using structural, chemical and magnetic techniques, withparticular attention to preserving the V oxidation states required forhigh-temperature magnetic ordering and understanding the influence of airexposure and film processing. The work will contribute toward the developmentof magnetic PBA thin films for future applications in electronics andsensing.
Type of internship: Master internship, PhD internship
