Since the announcement that Facebook became Meta at the end of 2021, the future is taking shape. Indeed, Meta plans to create the most ambitious metaverse in the world, while the city of Seoul has ambitions to build its replica in a dedicated metaverse. What’s more, Baidu has just announced massive investments in a metaverse that shall be operational in 2028. And of course, Sandbox, Decentraland and Roblox already are already present on the field, both literally and figuratively.

In these new worlds, new social and economic realities will exist. And that will fully justify new professional activities that will quickly become jobs. The American gaming expert Jon Radoff proposed in November 2021 a structuring vision of the categories of jobs likely to emerge, in connection with the metaverse and Web3. With a very conceptual approach, he describes the way in which jobs will take shape. What will yours be?

Metaverse Real Estate Agent

To tell you the truth, this job is already official. With the arrival of real estate properties on Sandbox, Decentraland and Roblox, many people are already owners. Whether it is to buy their future property at the right place and at the right price or to sell it in the best conditions, the metaverse will need real estate agents.

Skills and knowledge required

Immersive navigation, History and geography of metaverses, Communication, Group tour management, Service orientation.

Metaverse Tourist Guide

Tomorrow there will be dozens of active metaverses. In each, there will be activities to do, museums to visit or people to meet. All these realities will evolve quickly and we will be happy to be accompanied by experts in these ecosystems to make the most of our virtual trips.

Skills and knowledge required

Immersive navigation, General knowledge, History and geography of metaverses, Communication, Service orientation.

Metaverse Gardener

Many metaverses will reproduce neighbourhoods with houses or buildings but also gardens and parks, with trees, bushes and flowers. Metaverse gardeners will be responsible for ensuring that these virtual objects are in harmony with their surroundings. Nobody would want a Fuchsia next to a West Point tulip.

Skills and knowledge required

Immersive navigation, Knowledge of plants, Attention to detail, Aesthetic sense, Mastery of object bank.

Metaverse Bodyguard

To prevent your avatar from being attacked by frenzied crowds or a malicious avatar, you can hire the services of metaverse bodyguards. They may not be skilled in martial arts, but they will have the means to keep danger at bay. A complaint has already been filed in December in the United States for virtual sexual harassment.

Skills and knowledge required

Immersive navigation, Observation skills, Communication, Collaboration, Toughness, Service skills.

Metaverse Police Officer

Beyond the security financed by an individual or an organisation to watch over an avatar, it is possible that communities will collectively decide to set up security services to protect avatar citizens and virtual goods. We would then see the emergence of security agents, or even metaverse policemen, equipped with means of punishment.

Skills and knowledge required

Immersive navigation, Observation skills, Communication, Collaboration, Toughness, Mastery of sanctioning tools.

Metaverse Team Manager

Since many avatars will be engaged in professional activities on behalf of organisations, the challenge will be to ensure adequate management of these avatars and their human counterparts. Like team leaders in massively multiplayer games (MMORPGs), the metaverse will see the emergence of team managers.

Skills and knowledge required

Immersive navigation, Communication, Collaboration, Critical thinking, Creativity, Decision-making, Service orientation.

Metaverse Teacher

In December 2021, Stanford University gave its first class in the metaverse. This was a shocking exercise for the professor, who had to adapt his methods and posture for teaching. With infinite collaborative and creative possibilities, the metaverse promises to be a powerful pedagogical tool.

Skills and knowledge required

Immersive navigation, Mastery of one's specialty, Mastery of immersive tools, Communication, Collaboration, Critical thinking, Creativity, and more.

Mayor of a metaverse city

The metaverse will be made of communities, with their own rules and dynamics. For each neighbourhood or municipality, a representative will be needed. He/she shall be capable of ensuring governance that meets the requirements of citizen avatars. This will be a key job, since decentralisation and participatory governance are at the heart of Web3.

Skills and knowledge required

Immersive navigation, Communication, Collaboration, Critical thinking, Decision making, Service orientation.

Metaverse Performer

Last November, Justin Bieber gave a concert in the metaverse. Tomorrow, some will make it their job to sing, dance or perform any other dimension of the performing arts. The possibilities for this job are endless.

Skills and knowledge required

Immersive navigation, Creativity, Attention to detail, Stress management, Communication, Observation skills.

Metaverse Digital Artist

A digital artist creates 2D or 3D visuals using computer graphics tools. The digital artists of the metaverse will do the same but they will do it directly from the metaverse by creating directly in the space they are in. Note that these digital artists can also create elements for the metaverse from the real world.

Skills and knowledge required

Immersive navigation, Creativity, Attention to detail, Mastery of immersive tools, Artistic sense, Mastery of design tools.

Metaverse Graffiti Artist

Will it be possible to tag walls or paint murals in the metaverse? It doesn't really matter, because there will always be a need for artists to visually enhance an environment. The difference may lie in the effect on the owners of the land. Graffiti and digital artists may or may not be the same profession in the metaverse: everything still needs to be created.

Skills and knowledge required

Immersive navigation, Creativity, Attention to detail, Mastery of immersive tools, Artistic sense.

Metaverse Photographer

If you've played The Sims before, you may have already taken screenshots of your new Sims home or town. Perhaps you could become a metaverse photographer. More seriously, this activity will quickly become an expert work in itself, in order to capture certain moments or places in the metaverse.

Skills and knowledge required

Immersive navigation, Creativity, Attention to detail, Mastery of immersive tools, Artistic sense.

Metaverse Witness Client

If companies create service activities in the metaverse, you can be sure that there will be a stake in testing the quality of these services. And perhaps this will result in the payment of fake customers, paid to assess the quality of hospitality in a luxury metaverse establishment or some other prestigious experience.

Skills and knowledge required

Immersive navigation, Communication, Attention to detail, Observation.

Metaverse Influencer

If metaverses are to attract large audiences, they will need inspirational role models who live off our love. Just like on Instagram... To reassure you, you can be sure that there will be influencers on how to live together, on emotional intelligence or on eco-responsibility.

Skills and knowledge required

Immersive navigation, Creativity, Communication, Observation skills, Rigour, and more.

Metaverse Passive Income Collector

One thing you may have missed about the metaverse movement is the outbreak of so-called “Play to earn” games that allow you to generate income from a few actions or even several hours of play per day. In the metaverse, there are those who will invest heavily to earn more, and those who will work to collect their income.

Skills and knowledge required

Immersive navigation, Creativity, Observation skills, Rigour, Communication, Play-to-earn games.

What does working in the metaverse imply?

Not all jobs in the metaverse will require a systematic presence. Immersed professions such as those on this list will require an avatar to carry out this activity. But this will not necessarily be the case for organisers, designers or observers.
