The good news for developers is that Codingame's annual study on recruitment in the tech industry predicts massive recruitment in the sector. In 2022, 35% of recruiters surveyed in 131 countries have planned to hire more than 50 developers. The problem is that half of the professionals in charge of dev recruitment are struggling to find qualified candidates. Therefore, some are willing to experiment with new methods. The traditional CV could be at risk.

57% of recruiters ready to abandon the CV

A CV-free application? For 57% of recruiters in the tech sector, this is a real possibility. This is news that could delight all candidates who find the exercise tedious. Even though Europe has the highest proportion of recruiters who are attached to the CV (40%). If you want to skip it, we advise you to move to South America where the practice seems to be the most appreciated.

According to the study, 66% of recruiters think that bias is an issue in tech recruitment. A problem that explains their willingness to shun the CV. Moreover, 61% of those surveyed hire coders without any initial academic training. Profiles for whom the CV is less meaningful.

New ways of recruiting

This 2022 edition of the Codingame study shows changes in the ways of recruiting developers. “Since 2020, ‘Identifying potential even if the candidate's skills do not exactly match our criteria’ has jumped from 8th place to 2nd place”, the study states. Proof that, in order to meet the significant recruitment needs for developers, hard skills are no longer enough.

Unfortunately, 30% of the developers surveyed believe that it is difficult to express their personality and to highlight their soft skills during remote interviews. There will therefore be numerous challenges to be met in 2022.

Methodology

The study was conducted from October 20th to December 6th, 2021 among 4,000 professionals who recruit technical profiles as part of their assignments and nearly 14,000 developers in 131 countries via an online questionnaire.
