    Climate Neutrality by 2040

    At METRO, actions speak louder than words!  In 2021, we raised our climate target, aiming for global carbon neutrality in our operations by 2040. And we're not just talking the talk. We're walking the walk! With a 36.6% reduction in emissions since 2011, we're making real progress. Our goal? SBTi certification for our 2040 carbon neutrality target. Our climate-neutral initiatives: Boosting energy efficiency and embracing #renewables Transitioning to natural refrigerants Phasing out fossil heat Expanding #photovoltaic systems Electrifying our company car fleet Adopting zero-emission models in new store construction Community and collaboration are key, so we've joined the Düsseldorf Climate Pact as an official climate partner of the city. But our climate efforts don't stop at our doorstep. We've pledged to reduce our Scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions by 60% by 2030, and we're already at 33.5%. We've also committed to a 15% absolute reduction in Scope 3 CO2 emissions by 2030. Using scenario analysis to manage risks such as rising CO2 prices and resource scarcity, we’re well prepared for the future  Reducing waste is another priority. We're innovating, providing waste insights and guiding customers on responsible disposal.  Last but not least our water policy aims to reduce water consumption by 10% per square metre by 2030.  Join us on our sustainable journey!     Absolventenkongress - Cologne 2023

    What an inspiring time at the Absolventenkongress with METRO Deutschland GmbH! The two-day recruiting and networking event by Staufenbiel Institut GmbH is the largest annual career fair for graduates in Germany and what can we say? It certainly lived up to its reputation!  This year it took place in Cologne from 23rd to 24th November. It is an ideal opportunity for students, graduates and young professionals with up to 3 years of work experience to network with over 150 employers. From informative discussions to valuable insights, it provided an ideal platform to exchange ideas about exciting career opportunities. Above all, the energy and enthusiasm of the attendees made it a great success. As an international employer, we are constantly looking for qualified and ambitious young talents to be part of #OneMETRO and join through various career entry possibilities. In line with this, our 'Mastering Your CV' session provided insight and tips on how to advance your career.     Welcome METRO AG Trainees!

    Exciting times at METRO AG!  October has been a month of new beginnings for us as we welcomed five trainees from four different nations into the METRO AG community.  They have an 18-month-long journey of learning and growth through various facets of our business ahead of them. Specializing in either Procurement, Food Service Distribution, Supply Chain, Controlling, or People & Culture, they'll be exploring and contributing to #OneMETRO in exciting ways. We're committed to helping them excel every step of the way. That’s why our trainees embark on a diverse job rotation and experience different business entities personally which will help them integrate seamlessly into the METRO AG team.  We're proud having them on board and look forward to witnessing their incredible journeys.  Do you want to #JoinTheM?     Career Fairs Recap

    Let's take a look at recent events! Over the last couple of weeks, METRO participated in some exciting career fairs, connecting with talented young people. At the WHU Career Day back in September, we scouted promising talents for our graduate programs, internships, and working student roles. Also with former graduates of our Next Gen Finance programme to provide some valuable insights and bring the program closer to the students. The EBS Symposium, hosted by a top German business school, was also a great opportunity to engage with aspiring talents, especially for strategic and law-related roles at METRO. Last but not least, Fontys Venlo's Career Day provided a dynamic platform for networking. We connected with 100+ companies and met motivated students from Germany and the Netherlands, especially in the field of Supply Chain Management and International Business. The events were a great kick-off into the career fair season this fall and we can't wait for our upcoming events. Stay tuned for more updates, and let's keep shaping the future together!

    METRO Potentials - Induction Week

    Induction is one of the most important stages of the employee experience. Don't you agree? Well, we certainly do!  Recently, 14 trainees from 11 different METRO/MAKRO countries, who are participating in our METRO Potentials Programme, met for their induction week on METRO Campus in Düsseldorf. The main goal? To ignite their passion for #OneMETRO. Besides touring our headquarters, our Potentials had the opportunity to get to know our METRO store. On top of that, they also were warmly welcomed by our CPCO, Christiane Giesen making use of a great opportunity to exchange ideas with her over lunch. Naturally, a cooking session at our METROrante was not to be missed.  In the end, it was all about practical teamwork and an authentic METRO experience. We’re happy to welcome them to #ShapeTheM with all of us! And we wish them much success on their exciting journey ahead!
