VTT has three business areas with different research:

• In Carbon neutral solutions, the research teams work with systemic and technological solutions to de-carbonize the economy and society.
• In Sustainable products and materials, the research teams work with processes, technologies, materials, and products from lab-to-pilot scale.
• In Digital technologies, the research teams work with Breakthrough technologies, simulation of networks, cyber security, situational awareness.
• In addition, our business support consists of human resources, finance and business support, and strategy departments. 
• We also have commercial operations which consist of sales and customer partnerships, marketing and communications, and design departments.

Career possibilities for students at VTT 

Every year VTT hires dozens of students with diverse educational backgrounds to work as fixed-term trainees or thesis workers. In 2023 we have recruited over 100 trainees and thesis workers. Most of our trainees join us in the summer and many continue part-time alongside studies and after graduation.

At VTT you get to put your studies into practice in a multinational working environment with superb colleagues. At VTT, you can take on meaningful research projects or support researchers' work. We treat young talents as equals and give you real responsibility from the start.

Summer trainees

Each summer we are looking for tens of students from varying study fields to join us as summer trainees. The application period for summer traineeships 2024 start in early January. Find out more about our summer trainee programme VTT Summer of Changemakers here.

Thesis worker

Thesis workers do their thesis work related to their studies as a part of a VTT project and is therefore a big part of the success of the project. If you are at the final stages of your studies, this might be something for you!
