What you'll do

You will join a team responsible for developing and optimising hardware and software solutions for control, protection and safety systems used in CERN's experimental facilities. In this role, you will contribute to the operation and reliability of the magnet systems of the LHC experiments, including ATLAS, CMS, ALICE and LHCb, as well as other critical infrastructure. You will be involved in the design, implementation and maintenance of low-voltage electrical systems, working closely with engineers, technicians and physicists in a multidisciplinary environment.

Your responsibilities
  • Design and document low-voltage power and control systems for magnet safety, control and auxiliary infrastructure.
  • Participate in the implementation, testing and commissioning of electrical systems for future LHC upgrades.
  • Contribute to the development and validation of electrical circuits for control and protection applications.
  • Collaborate with physicists, engineers and technicians to develop reliable and efficient technical solutions.
  • Produce technical documentation and support the operation of critical systems.

Your profile
  • Experience working on electrical engineering, automation or technical projects.
  • Exposure to electrical circuit design and documentation.
  • Experience using engineering software tools for electrical design (e.g. EPLAN or equivalent).
  • Experience with laboratory testing, commissioning or troubleshooting activities.
  • Participation in collaborative technical projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Your studies focused on Electrical Technical Engineering.

Your skills
  • Knowledge of low-voltage power distribution and control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of PLCs, instrumentation and industrial control systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.

Medical hazard
  • Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain conditions.
Given the occupational health risks associated with this position, the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.

Employment conditions
  • Residence in the immediate vicinity of the Organization's installations.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Participation in a regular stand-by duty, including nights, Sundays and official holidays.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
  • Stand-by duty, when required by the needs of the Organization.
  • Work in Radiation Areas.
