Complete your construction engineering internship in Nepal and take part in reconstruction and sustainable infrastructure development projects within local communities. Working alongside construction companies and local teams, you will contribute to the design and construction of buildings adapted to the environmental constraints and natural hazards of the Kathmandu region.

Depending on the season and the progress of ongoing projects, you may be involved in construction sites as well as design, renovation, and sustainable development projects.

Your Missions

Your tasks will be adapted to your level, specialisation, and the needs of the projects. They may include:

  • Contributing to the design and construction of sustainable and resilient buildings, such as schools, community centres, and health clinics.
  • Conducting site visits and technical surveys and assisting with construction site monitoring.
  • Preparing plans, technical studies, and cost estimates.
  • Designing projects using CAD software and producing models or technical drawings.
  • Analysing environmental constraints, including soil conditions, drainage, and energy consumption, to propose appropriate solutions.
  • Participating in masonry, renovation, painting, and building improvement work.
  • Contributing to the installation of sustainable infrastructure, such as rainwater harvesting systems, water purification systems, and solutions to improve thermal comfort.
  • Taking part in awareness-raising activities with local communities on sustainable construction and environmental protection.

Tasks vary depending on the time of year. Major structural construction work is mainly carried out during the dry season, while the monsoon season focuses more on design, interior renovation, space improvements, and community-based activities.

Profile

This internship is particularly suitable for students in civil engineering, construction engineering, building engineering, architecture, environmental engineering, or public works who are looking to gain hands-on experience in sustainable construction and international development.

It is an excellent opportunity to develop skills in project management, technical design, sustainable construction, and adapting infrastructure to environmental and climate-related challenges.

Additional Information

This internship is unpaid. In the vast majority of countries, there is no legal requirement to provide financial compensation to interns. Our partner host organisations operate within different local economic and legal frameworks, where hosting international interns is based on training and cultural exchange rather than remuneration.

Accommodation, meals, and transportation costs are paid before your departure. This advance payment allows RealStep to confirm and secure all your accommodation and local services with our partners before your arrival, ensuring that all logistics are already in place before you leave.
