The Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IME), part of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark, offers a part-time position (01.09.2026 - 30.06.2027) as a Student Helper at The Core - Student Workshop.

The Core Workshop is a hands-on facility within IME, supporting research, teaching, and student projects through advanced fabrication and prototyping capabilities. The workshop is equipped with a broad range of machinery, including FDM, resin (SLA/DLP), and SLS 3D printers, laser cutters, drills, and a variety of other hand and bench tools - enabling the production of specialised parts and components across disciplines.

The Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering is located in the inspiring Alsion building in Sønderborg, which hosts both academic and industrial actors, fostering strong collaboration between research and industry.

Responsibilities

  • Printing specialised parts for colleagues and students using FDM, resin (SLA/DLP), and SLS 3D printers
  • Ordering and managing workshop supplies, including filaments, resins, powders, and consumables
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting workshop machinery to ensure safe and reliable operation
  • Supporting and supervising students in the use of 3D printers and other workshop equipment
  • Assisting in the preparation and organisation of the workshop environment

Qualifications and Skills

The following qualifications and skills are considered strong assets:

  • Experience with CAD software (e.g. Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar) for designing and preparing parts for fabrication
  • Extensive knowledge of 3D printing processes, including familiarity with slicing software and printer operation
  • Practical hands-on experience in a workshop or fabrication environment is an advantage, but not a requirement
  • Understanding of design-for-manufacturing principles and material properties relevant to additive manufacturing
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage tasks such as supply ordering and equipment upkeep
  • Good communication skills and a helpful, service-minded attitude towards students and colleagues

Please note, the selected candidate as Student Assistant or Academic Supervisor must be enrolled as student at SDU.

Employment shall take place in accordance with the framework agreement between the Ministry of Finance and SUL (National Union for Student Teachers in Government Service).

In case you have not yet had an examination at SDU, the enrollment confirmation instead of the exam transcript must be annexed your application.
