Ever heard of Fulgence Bienvenüe? A respected French engineer, he was the father of the Paris Metro system, which he opened in 1900! Even today, a station on the network continues to bear his name: Montparnasse-Bienvenüe... On his grave in Paris’ famous Père-Lachaise cemetery, anonymous passers-by often leave paper metro tickets as a tribute to the man.
