Fun fact

In ancient times, cities founded by the Romans were organised around two axes: decumanus (east-west) and cardo (north-south). Straight streets either ran parallel or perpendicular to those main arteries. The so-called “hippodamian” layout is still favoured today in many cities in both North and South America, such as Montreal, New York and Bogota!
