A JOURNEY OF LEADERSHIP
Brian Tees is Senior Vice President at Eurofins Clinical Diagnostics in the US. With a Masters in Business from Pepperdine University, Graziadio School of Business and Management, and a robust 20+ year career in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and diagnostic services, Brian has held leadership and executive roles for over 15 years across domestic and international businesses. Brian and his team are instrumental in driving innovation and improving patient outcomes through Eurofins Clinical Diagnostics Testing laboratory activity in the US.
DRIVING INNOVATION IN CLINICAL DIAGNOSTICS
Eurofins Clinical Diagnostics aims to ensure that every healthcare provider has access to the most specialised and innovative techniques for patient diagnosis, monitoring, and improving therapeutic decisions. Brian's portfolio of companies comprises clinical diagnostic entities in the transplant genomics, cardiac biomarker, infectious disease, immunology, organ and donor product testing, as well as renal specialty testing. These businesses employ well over 1,000 dedicated associates across the US and abroad, working tirelessly to deliver a wide range of laboratory-developed tests and services, including for example, transplant gene expression profiling. These innovative companies and tests contribute to the health and safety of patients in many ways, from the identification of infection, to the identifying and mapping cardiovascular risk factors, to determining immune responses and the prediction of kidney transplant rejection, showcasing the team's dedication to advancing medical science and improving patient outcomes.
THE ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT
According to Brian, what sets the Eurofins network apart from its competitors, is its entrepreneurial spirit. While others may focus on doing more of the same, we at the Eurofins network are constantly looking to innovate, finding new ways of contributing to the advancement of science, and acquiring or partnering with startups to accelerate innovation. We rely on our leadership to grow and innovate, and this empowers us to shape our future and diversify our business.
This entrepreneurial approach extends to how our colleagues are nurtured within the Eurofins network. Brian emphasises the importance of strong leadership teams that guide strategic paths, manage portfolios, and foster career growth. It's about empowering our teams to take ownership and drive success. Brian’s own path was shaped by his leadership approach to challenge habits, to grow his team professionally, and develop a culture that emphasises total ownership.
Brian is also dedicated to promoting diversity within his team, reflecting the Eurofins network's broader commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. As a parent of four, he shares valuable advice on maintaining a healthy work-life balance: Nobody provides you balance; you need to be purposeful to achieve it.
CONCRETE EXAMPLES OF SUCCESS
Brian looks back on his journey so far within the Eurofins network, and notes a number of highlights:
1. Eurofins Transplant Genomics: For the past 1.5 years, Brian has served as acting President of Eurofins Transplant Genomics. Alongside his Chief Medical Officer, he successfully advocated to improve reimbursement and access to molecular tests on Capitol Hill, the seat of the U.S. government. Transplant Genomics is an innovative provider of tests that enable clinicians to identify transplant rejection early, allowing timely interventions to save both the donated kidney and the transplant patient.
2. Eurofins Viracor Facility: In 2023, Eurofins celebrated the grand opening of a new 100,000 square foot Eurofins Viracor building in Lenexa, Kansas. Eurofins Viracor focuses on infectious disease, immunology, and allergy testing, with a significant emphasis on transplant-related testing.
3. CellTx Startup: Also in 2023, the Eurofins network launched CellTx, a startup that focuses on live donor testing for transplants and biologic product manufacturing.
4. Ascend Clinical Laboratory: The Eurofins Clinical Diagnostics network welcomed Ascend Clinical Laboratory in Sunnyvale, CA, the largest independent renal dialysis testing laboratory in the US. The automation and scale of this facility highlight the Eurofins network's commitment to technological advancement.
5. Partnership with Newcastle University: Brian and his team are dedicated to supporting research partnerships, including a significant collaboration established in 2023 with Newcastle University upon Tyne in Northern England. This unique agreement involves the University and the Eurofins network jointly building an R&D capability and a biorepository, with the aim of advancing discovery across all five solid organ transplants the Eurofins Clinical Diagnostics network specialises in: lung, heart, kidney, liver, and pancreas. The University will undertake biorepository development activity which will complement Eurofins Clinical Diagnostics’ internal R&D efforts, generating essential samples for discovery in these transplant areas.
Brian Tees' diverse and impactful journey within the Eurofins network is a testament to the network’s entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to innovation. Eurofins Clinical Diagnostics continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in healthcare, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care. Brian's dedication to his team, his strategic vision, and his focus on technological advancements represent the crucial attributes of Eurofins employees, the key drivers of the Eurofins network’s success.
