Q&A with a student employee, Marie

Before becoming a student employee at Danske CommoditiesMarie Frandsen had assumptions about what working in the energy sector might be like (corporate, competitive - maybe even a bit daunting?). Little did she know that the perfect role was waiting for her working with people development in our People & Culture team.

Get to know Marie – and get an insight into what it’s like to work as a student at Danske Commodities – below.

Employed since

June 2023

What’s a fun fact about you?

I used to be an elite swimmer.

What is your background?

I always knew I wanted to work with people. But I didn’t realise that a job in the energy sector would be a perfect fit. I started as a student worker at Danske Commodities when I began my master’s in business psychology. Through my position in People & Culture, I’ve gained experience across the entire people development field and confirmed that the most important thing for my work life is that I’m making a real difference when I go to work."

Why did you want to work at DC?

I was on the lookout for a versatile job that would allow me to work with a range of people development tasks – most importantly, a job where I could gain responsibility early on. I got that from day one in my role as Junior People Development Specialist in our People & Culture team.

What do you do in your position?

I’m naturally structured, which is why I manage the DC University course program, offering 40 courses every six months. Additionally, I work on everything from career development to supporting our diverse people development initiatives.

What does a typical workday look like?

Every day, my tasks are diverse and, for me, the perfect combination of administrative responsibilities and development tasks. Through my work, I have a wide range of contacts, and I enjoy being in touch with many different people throughout my workday.

What is the best part of your job?

From day one, I felt my colleagues trusted me and my abilities.

And when they believed I could succeed, I did too. That’s how I quickly grew with the responsibility I was given. The right tasks, combined with the right opportunities, make me certain that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.
