Knowing how to stand out while staying true to yourself

Even though the market has been relatively favourable to young job seekers recently, let's face it: whether you're looking for an internship, a fixed-term contract or a permanent contract, there are often more applicants than there are positions to be filled. In these conditions, how can you hope to get the job you want and stand out from the crowd? While it may be tempting to submit your attempt at the latest TikTok challenge as a video CV, landing your dream job requires a rather more thorough approach. Starting, for example, by asking how the algorithms that will screen your CV work. And don't forget that, once you've been pre-selected, your application will be passed onto recruiters who receive dozens, even hundreds, of CVs a day. If you want to be a cut above the rest, you'll have to approach writing your profile with at least as much energy you put into your outfit for the last New Year's Eve party. And, because we're nice, we've put together the six secrets to creating the perfect job application.

Interview tips: the final hurdle

You've landed a job interview and all that's left is to convince the recruiters that you're the right candidate for the coveted position. You've made it – nearly.  But there's just one problem: you're stressed out of your mind. But, did you know that stress isn't necessarily a bad thing, and you're actually less likely to be successful without it? It's all about stress management!

The important thing is to be well prepared. Do your research on the company (and not just the job description), anticipate the recruiter's questions (and ask a few questions of your own) and try, on the day, to present yourself without getting caught up in speech tics and fillers (the fiendish "erms" and "errs" that can make us sound hesitant and unsure of ourselves). And remember: there's no need to hide your failures or lie about your experience or personality. Being confident enough to own these aspects of your profile will make you stand out as the ideal candidate. And believe us: you're bound to fit someone's requirements perfectly!
