There’s a new kid, in the "Chief Something" family. The Chief Impact Officer or CIO for short. We already knew the CSR Project Managers or the Sustainable Development Managers. But now CSR increasingly integrates the ExCom of companies. According to Vendredi's CSR Barometer, this is the case in 65% of companies.
Same job as Prince Harry
The CIO function is growing and in March 2021, it got a big boost. After leaving his royal duties and moving across the Atlantic, Prince Harry joined the startup BetterUp as Chief Impact Officer. Which brought this new job to light.
The main mission of the CIO is to reconcile business and CSR to put impact at the heart of corporate strategies. A major project that can concern all companies, even those that are not at first glance "impact-native", as explained by Kat Borlongan, Chief Impact Officer of ContentSquare, during a roundtable about this new job, hosted by Vendredi.
Between the new ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) standards implemented in Europe and the growing development of mission-driven companies, the position of Chief Impact Officer should be more and more common in companies.
