This project aims to perform filtration experiments to validate, learn and contribute to the development of Si based filter technology for an artificial kidney.
What you will do
- Conduct research on reusable and scalable building blocks for the development of artificial organs. Examples of such building blocks are membrane/filter technology and bio-hybrid solutions.
- Perform hands-on experiments, such as membrane permeability testing, sieving experiments for further improvements of the filter technology (for example artificial kidney).
- Data interpretation, data analysis and presentations to rest of the team members.

Who you are
- You are a motivated masters student in nano engineering/material engineering/chemical engineering/membrane technology or equivalent fields.
- Independent and hands-on approach in setting up/performing (filtration) experiments.
- Very good understanding of MEMS and microfluidics to help/assist improve the filter design will be greatly appreciated.
- A good understanding of mass transport across membranes and interfacial chemistry will be a plus.
- You are available for a period of at least 6 months (30 credit points).
- Good communication and presentation skills in English (written and spoken).
- Entitled to do an internship in the Netherlands. This means that you are either an EU/EEA citizen, or a non-EU/EEA citizen who is studying at a Dutch university and need to do an internship as part of your studies.
