Whether navigating on the bridge or loading weapons on deck, crossing oceans on an aircraft carrier or lurking deep below on a nuclear submarine, whatever their speciality, naval officers are military leaders charged with protecting the high seas.

Fun fact
Did you know that since the First World War, ships in Britain’s Royal Navy have kept up a very special tradition: at the end of every successful voyage, they hoist the black pirate flag, the famous Jolly Roger. On it, they paint codified symbols to highlight their exploits on the high seas (red and white bars for a sunken warship, a dagger for an infiltration mission, etc.).
