A company's success starts with its employees. Success lies not only in employees' years of experience or diplomas, but especially in their potential to grow and adapt. This is especially true for young graduates who may not yet have the extensive work experience, but do have the motivation, curiosity and eagerness to learn and develop new skills quickly.
The value of learning ability over experience
A CV tells us what someone has done in his/her life, but says little about how this person performed those tasks and what they learned from them.
It is more valuable to understand what a candidate has learned, how they deal with the feedback they have received and what strategies they want to use to acquire new knowledge and skills. For BDO, learning ability, resilience and willingness to grow are key indicators of long-term success.
Figuring out the thought process
When hiring young talent, it is important to focus on the candidate's motivation and mindset. How do we do this? By using behavioural questions during the recruitment process! This helps us understand the candidate's mindset. Besides asking about the tasks you have performed, we also want to know how you deal with challenges you have encountered and how you solved them. How do you deal with ambiguity? How do you think about problem solutions and strategy? How do you process and apply new information? These are all important factors in a dynamic and fast-changing work environment.
