Sometimes it can be difficult to find your place in a new environment, understand the culture of a new company, … That’s why it’s important that organisations invest in their interns, just like Deloitte does! The Interns Ignite Event was created to inspire and expand the network of former, current, and future interns. Inspiration Interns Ignite started with an engaging panel discussion. Some of Deloitte’s current interns, and former interns who now work for the firm, shared their first-hand experiences, shedding light on what it means to be a true Deloitte intern. The participants were invited to get involved and interact with the panellists during the Q&A session. To further enrich the experience, Deloitte also hosted three other inspiring sessions. First, Bram Doolaege, Founder & Partner of StreetwiZe, offered practical tips on how to manage personal talent development, encouraging the interns to reevaluate their beliefs about talent and success. Success is about dedication, effort, and practice. Not only about inherent talent. After that, the participants went on a speed date with former interns, extracting wisdom and advice. Finally, they took part in a quiz in smaller groups to get to know better Deloitte and its Belgian headquarters, the Gateway building. Networking More than anything, Deloitte’s Interns Ignite Event was an excellent opportunity to connect with other interns. Gateway was filled with chatter and laughter as the interns wrapped up the fantastic event by enjoying a pizza buffet and playing a game that gave them insights into their roles in a team setting and empowered them to forge new contacts with their peers. From De Brabantse Pijl to the Brussels 20 km, there are cycling races, hockey competitions, and running events to choose from. Online challenges, which you can take on individually or as part of a team, are also organised to inspire you to keep moving and enjoy fun, new ways of boosting your mental and physical wellbeing. And, at Deloitte Zaventem you’ll find a fully equipped gym open weekdays! A once-in-a-lifetime experience But that’s not all! Every year, Deloitters can apply to become an Energise@Deloitte ambassador, training six months and making lifestyle changes to successfully take on an epic challenge. Based on their motivation and physical fitness, 70 enthusiastic ambassadors were selected this year. Throughout the experience they enjoyed the support of professional EnergyLab coaches, as well as their family, friends, and colleagues. In June, all the Energise@Deloitte ambassadors successfully crossed the finish line in Lacs de l’Eau d’Heure, having completed an Olympic distance triathlon, 21 km off-road trail run, or a 90 km cycling challenge. Do you remember the days before smartphones? Surprisingly, they weren’t all that long ago. Over the past few decades, the digital revolution has transformed how we communicate, share information and so much more. These technological advancements have made us more interconnected than any other generation, but communications is not the only domain that has been revolutionized. There have been incredible breakthroughs in a variety of fields, such as healthcare. And when it comes to solving some of the biggest societal challenges facing the human race, like climate change and pandemics, leveraging technology will be vital to ensuring a better future for everyone. “We've just been talking about the big challenges we face as global citizens and that technology should be the solution to that, whether it's water scarcity or global warming or a food crisis, but also the smaller problems of people,” shares Piet Vandendriessche, CEO Deloitte Belgium. “So in that sense, I think we need to continue to invest in technology and also in people who can help develop the solutions we need.” Continued innovation in areas such as biotechnology will help to tackle these issues head on. “Breakthrough innovations in biotechnology combined with new sensor and microchip technology, and artificial intelligence, all that together, there's so much potential and so much to do there and that's mainly what we're focusing on in our health research,” explains Luc Van den hove, president and CEO of imec. Developing and investing in technology is an important, but ensuring accessibility and coherency for businesses and organisations is a critical component for successfully rolling out innovative solutions more broadly. “Deloitte is there to help understand technology, to understand the full model around that technology, to understand how it fits into the processes of the business itself and then to help scale that technology throughout the organisation,” says Tim Paridaens, Deloitte Partner in Cloud Engineering.
