Brandstorm Success Stories - Tiago Melo

Hey Tiago, who are you, and what is your job today?
Hey! I’m Tiago Melo, Portuguese, 37yo. A L’Oréal baby, having started 14 years ago!
After several experiences in operational marketing in Portugal and marketing coordination for Europe Zone, I’m currently the Global Marketing Director for L’Oreal Men Expert
How did your L'Oréal journey start?
My journey started with… L’Oréal Brandstorm, precisely 15 years ago.
Why did you decide to play Brandstorm?
I was challenged to play Brandstorm by my former Marketing professor at university. She insisted that it would be great for my CV and that, ultimately, I had potentially a fit with the L’Oréal culture (she had already worked for L’Oreal). How thankful I am today for that challenge that I accepted!
What was your project and how did your team perform?
Our challenge was creating a new and strong Vichy proposal on suncare for a younger target. Looking back, we were quite ahead of time: we clustered young people into 4 tribes (according to studies), and we created a new range of refillable suncare under a fancy cover adapted to your tribe. Later you could personalize it. We won the national final and we had the amazing opportunity to represent our country in the international final, in Paris. Unfortunately, we didn’t win! But what an experience it was!
How did competing in Brandstorm help you to build a career at L'Oréal?
Besides the obvious benefits in terms of networking and meeting hiring managers, I think most importantly, the competition shows deeply the culture of L’Oréal: our ambition, creativity, and pitching spirit. It’s a way to see what’s and who’s behind our curtains and, as a student, to analyze if you could match with the company’s culture. Make the most of it!
Today our subject is centered around "digital", do you have any tips for our new participants?
We, at L’Oréal, are focused on creating the beauty that moves the world. This strong ambition needs you and your biggest creativity: the sky is the limit! So, bring us the sky!
